SCHOOL WELLNESS POLICIES FOR NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Park Place School is committed to providing a school environment that promotes children's health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

All students will have opportunities, support, and encouragement to be physically active on a regular basis.

Students will have access to a variety of nutritious foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

Park Place School (PPS) participates in the National School Lunch Program, (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) at no charge to our families.

PPS will provide nutrition and physical education to foster lifelong habits of healthy eating and physical activity.

Children need access to healthy foods and opportunities to be physically active to grow, learn, and thrive.

Good health fosters student attendance and education.
TO ACHIEVE THESE POLICY GOALS

PPS provides opportunities for students to maintain physical fitness through P.E classes twice a week and recess periodically, as weather and time permits.

PPS will adopt or exceed the state standards for physical activity.

Mercy Chefs provides breakfast and lunch for all students. These meals follow the nutritional guidelines, and include 1% low-fat milk, 1% low-fat lactose-free milk, and water. Water is also available to students throughout the day.

Mercy Chefs provides a variety of fruits and vegetables, and students are encouraged to try new items they are unfamiliar with.

Accommodation will be made for students with food allergies.

Weekly menus provided by Mercy Chefs are emailed to all families weekly as well as being posted in the cafeteria.

Healthy options are encouraged for celebrations and rewards.

Nutrition and physical activities will be discussed frequently with students in the classrooms and especially in P.E classes.

PPS will periodically give the students handouts concerning healthy food choices and physical health such as bike riding safety.

We will assess our efforts every quarter to determine progress and areas of improvement.
Park Place School is committed to planning for continual improvement and will provide a learning environment of excellence and high expectations for each student.
Park Place School Nutrition Civil Rights Procedures
Any person alleging discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability has a right to file a complaint within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory action. All civil rights complaints within Park Place School, School Nutrition Programs should be directed to Jennifer Whittington. Jennifer Whittington can be reached via phone at 757-624-3473 or by email at jwhittington@parkplaceschool.org. Complaints can be submitted verbally, in writing, or anonymously. All complaints will be processed within 90 days.

Park Place School Nutrition Programs will obtain all necessary complaint information and process the complaint within 90 days. The complaint will be forwarded to the Department of Education School Nutrition Programs.
Complete form and submit to District Contact within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory action. Forms can be submitted via email or through US mail.
